Ways to Respect Your Cat

Did you know that there’s a very important kitty holiday coming up? March 28th is Respect Your Cat Day! But how do you show a kitty respect? A Rochester, NY vet offers a few suggestions in this article.

Keep The Litterbox Clean

Cats hate using dirty bathrooms, and who can blame them? Keeping your kitty’s litterbox clean will not only make things more pleasant for Fluffy, it will also help keep your home from smelling like, well, a litterbox.

Provide Proper Veterinary Care

Many of our feline pals don’t see us as often as they should! Most cats should come in at least once a year, though kittens, senior furballs, and pets with health issues may need to come in more often. Ask your vet to recommend an appointment schedule.

Stimulation

Fluffy’s mental health is crucial to her overall happiness. Offer your furball lots of ways to entertain herself with while you are out or occupied. Toys, window seats, and even background noise can all keep your kitty entertained, and prevent her from getting bored and restless.

Playtime

Playing is actually great for your cat! Fun play sessions will keep Fluffy active, and provide her with mental stimulation. This is also a terrific way to bond with your feline buddy, and make her feel loved.

Provide Cat Furniture

Your kitty will somehow manage to make herself comfortable on your bed and sofa, but she’ll really enjoy having some things made just to suit her needs. A cat tower will definitely please your feline friend! Fluffy may also enjoy cat tunnels, tents, or tipis, or even simple cardboard boxes.

Don’t Force Attention

While many cats love being petted and cuddled, our feline overlords only want attention on their terms. Never force attention on your cat. (Note: Fluffy reserves the right to immediately change her mind about whether or not she actually wants to be petted at any given time.)

Be Cat Furniture

Many of our furry friends are quite the little cuddlebugs, and love to snuggle with their humans. While you can’t sit around being cat furniture all the time, it is important to spend quality time with your kitty regularly. There are few better ways to relax at the end of the day then by relaxing with a purring cat!
