Cat World Domination Day

There’s a very important kitty holiday coming up. June 24th is Cat World Domination Day! Is Fluffy really plotting to take over the world? A local Webster, NY vet discusses the shocking truth below.

The Meow

Kitties, as it turns out, have been manipulating us for a very long time. In fact, Fluffy may have started meowing specifically so she could communicate with her human servants, and let us know she wants food right meow. Most adult cats communicate with one another through body language, tail position, and facial expressions. They save their ‘speech’ for their humans. It seems these little furballs figured out early on that those plaintive meows—which just happen to sound like the cries of a human baby—really tug at our heart strings. This is extremely useful when it comes to convincing us to offer food, ear scritches, and comfy beds.

Predatory Kitties

Unlike most of the animals we’ve domesticated, Fluffy is quite capable of taking care of herself. Kitties are both healthier and safer living the lives of pampered pets. However, these cute little furballs are actually amazingly skilled predators.

Fluffy’s Plans

We suspect that taking over the internet is a big part of Fluffy’s plan. There definitely is a lot of cat-related content online! The internet has also contributed to the rise of some very big kitty celebrities, such as the adorably dour Grump Cat. This also makes one wonder about our feline buddies’ habits of sitting or walking on our keyboards!

Kitty Manipulation

Here’s where things get a bit … complicated. You may have heard of toxoplasmosis, which is a parasite that can be carried by cats. As it turns out, toxoplasmosis has some rather interesting effects on the human brain. It may even make people more affectionate towards cats! Ask your vet for more information.

Keeping Your Feline Overlord Content

Luckily, Fluffy’s plans for world domination are pretty benign. Our feline friends really only want comfy beds, good food, toys, and cuddle time with their human buddies. (Fluffy should also have regular veterinary care, though that may not actually be part of her plan.) Keep your furry pal happy by offering her great care, and making sure she is happy, healthy, and safe.
