6 Cute Ways to Spoil Your Cat on International Cat Day

August 8th is International Cat Day! Kitties are beloved pets all over the world. While we don’t really need much of a reason to celebrate our feline friends, this is a good time to spoil Fluffy. In this article, a Webster, NY vet lists some great ways to pamper your furry pal and get that little motor going.

Grass Mat

When it’s time to upgrade Fluffy’s litterbox, upcycle the old one. Wash it out, then put soil in it, and plant some cat grass (wheat grass) seeds in it. In a few weeks, your furball will have a grass carpet to sunbathe on!

Catnip Bubbles

Does your kitty enjoy catnip? If so, give Fluffy her favorite plant in bubble form. We probably don’t have to tell you this, but cats playing with bubbles are adorable!

Kitty Furniture

Kitty furniture is an excellent choice! Cat towers are great, as they serve several purposes, providing kitties with napping spots, jungle gyms, lookout points, and manicure stations. Pet condos and tipis are also fine. Beds are on the list as well. As far as kitties are concerned, you just can’t have too many napping spots! If you want to save money, look online for great DIY options. You’d be surprised at how many great things you can make.

Toys

Toys are very important to cats, both mentally and physically. Pick up a few new playthings for Fluffy, and spend some time playing with her.

Cat Garden

We recommend keeping cats indoors. Fluffy will be both safer and healthier if she’s protected from cars, wild animals, weather, and other hazards. However, you can give your feline buddy a taste of nature by picking up some nontoxic plants for her to nibble on and hide behind. Check the ASPCA website for a full list of suitable options.

Treats

Another great way to brighten up Fluffy’s day is to give her a special treat. Canned chicken and tuna in water are both great options. Kitties can also enjoy plain, cooked chicken, meat, or fish; some deli meat; or a little bit of cooked egg. Dairy isn’t a good choice, but you can find cat milk—which is safe for our feline pals—in most pet stores.
