Tips for Keeping Fluffy Happy and Healthy

February is National Cat Health Month! Kitties are known for being generally quite hardy and self-sufficient. However, Fluffy does still need good care in order to thrive. A local Rochester, NY vet offers tips on keeping your kitty happy and healthy in this article.

Good Food

Make sure Fluffy is eating a high-quality, premium kitty food. Don’t overindulge your cat, though: if your furball becomes obese, she could face some serious medical issues! Ask your vet for specific advice.

Safety Precautions

Cats may be small, but they seem to think of themselves as fierce, fearless lions, and have a bit of a knack for getting into trouble. Keep your pet safe and sound indoors! Also, remove anything that could be hazardous. This includes poisonous plants, small and sharp objects, wires and cords, plastic bags and ties, and other toxic items, such as chemical and medicine.

Regular Veterinary Care

Fluffy would probably rather take a nap than come visit us. However, regardless of what your furball thinks of her appointments, she will both look and feel better with proper veterinary care. We strongly recommend that kitties be fixed and microchipped. Keeping up with your pet’s exams, vaccinations, and parasite control is also important. At home, keep an eye out for any potential signs of illness. Call your vet immediately if you know or suspect that your feline pal isn’t feeling well.

Dental Care

Dental issues are very common in cats, and are just as painful as they are for humans. Left untreated, these issues can even prevent kitties from eating, which is a serious medical emergency. Keep up with your pet’s oral care!

Clean Litterboxes

Keeping your cat’s litterbox clean isn’t the best part of having a kitty, but it’s very important. Dirty litterboxes not only look and smell unpleasant, but they can harbor dangerous bacteria, which can cause infections.

Purr Starters

Cats are very emotional, and can be seriously affected by stress, loneliness, and anxiety. Keep Fluffy happy, comfy, and entertained by providing her with lots of kitty luxuries. This means fun toys, cozy beds, a good window view, and pet furniture. Also, be sure to pay lots of attention to your feline buddy, and keep that little motor going.
